In 1939, Eugene Andrie founded Kalamazoo’s “Little Symphony Orchestra”. Even then, it was renowned for its musical achievements, but Andrie could hardly have imagined that his vision would develop into today’s Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestras (KJSOs), now consisting of five ensembles with musicians from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and its nine surrounding counties. As the third-oldest continuously active youth orchestra organisation in the country, it has performed hundreds of concerts around the world and left a profound impact on generations of musicians.

Each season, the KJSO presents three performances of professional repertoire in the historic Chenery Auditorium. It partners with the Stulberg International String Competition to host its bronze medal winner each year and has additionally welcomed distinguished guest artists such as Alon Goldstein, Alpin Hong, Zlatomir Fung, Rachel Barton Pine, and Midori.
