Cubismo, a band performing high-energy dance music rooted in salsa, Latin jazz, and Afro-Cuban rhythms, will perform at the 30th Baščaršija Nights Festival on July 15. The concert, taking place in the Grand Hall of the Bosnian Cultural Center (BKC), promises to get the audience dancing with the band’s signature sound and infectious energy.

Cubismo is widely regarded as the leading ensemble of its kind in this part of Europe and has maintained an almost unchanged lineup for more than 25 years.

The concert begins at 8:00 p.m., and admission is free.

Cubismo was founded in 1995, bringing together outstanding musicians from various bands. The group’s founder and frontman is percussionist Hrvoje Rupčić, while its long-standing and distinctive lead vocalist is Ricardo Luque from Venezuela. The band’s name was inspired by Dizzy Gillespie’s composition Cu-bi Cu-bop, symbolically linking jazz with Afro-Cuban music.

Cubismo performs a vibrant fusion of salsa, jazz, Afro-Cuban, and Caribbean rhythms. Their distinctive sound is driven by a powerful rhythm section, dynamic horn arrangements, and energetic vocals. Their repertoire combines interpretations of traditional Latin classics with original compositions.

Throughout their career, the band has released several albums, including Cubismo (1997), Viva La Habana (1998), Motivo Cubano (2000), Junglesalsa (2002), Amigos (2004), and Autobus Calypso (2007). In 2020, marking their 25th anniversary, they released Tumbao in collaboration with the Croatian Radiotelevision Jazz Orchestra (HRT Jazz Orchestra), blending the rich sound of a big band with their signature Latin style.

Cubismo is renowned for its electrifying live performances, which regularly encourage audiences to dance and actively participate in the show. Over the years, the band has collaborated with numerous acclaimed Croatian and international artists, including members of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club, Josipa Lisac, Oliver Dragojević, Gibonni, and Vlada Divljan.

Today, Cubismo is recognized as one of the region’s foremost ambassadors of Latin music. For more than two decades, the band has been bringing the spirit of Latin America to audiences through concerts, festivals, and recordings, delivering authentic dance rhythms, vibrant performances, and an unmistakable sense of optimism to stages across the region and Europe.
