Edin Karamazov

Concert: Made in Silence

Edin Karamazov was born in Zenica in 1965. As a protégé of Sergiu Celibidache, he began his musical career as a classical guitarist before turning to the baroque lute, which he studied with Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland. He made his debut as a solo lutenist in 1998, replacing the legendary Julian Bream at the last minute. Since then, he has established himself as one of the most exciting and charismatic lute players of our time. His thrilling virtuoso performances on the lute and guitar, featuring a repertoire ranging from sixteenth-century classics to contemporary music, have received outstanding reviews and unprecedented critical acclaim in Europe and America. The exceptionally successful album Songs from the Labyrinth, recorded with Sting, not only made him a recognised name far beyond the world of early music, but also sparked a new “lute renaissance” for the twenty-first century. As a soloist, he has performed and recorded with leading international early music ensembles and artists. He has appeared at numerous prestigious venues, including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, and Vienna’s Konzerthaus.
